Personal Statement
My name is Mark Everton and I would like to announce that I have decided to pursue my athletics and academics at Cardinal O'Hara High School for my 2015 Senior year. My Schuman's National Underclassman verified times are as follows: height 6'1", weight 175 pounds, vertical jump 32", bench press 255 pounds, squat 305 pounds and 40 yard dash 4.53(verified by coach). I can still improve on that and I'm sure with hard work and persistence, I will. I ran my timed mile for the Varsity team in 5 minutes and 18 seconds. I have been playing football for 12 years, and received MVP recognition in 2006 when I was on the Bustleton Bengals football team. I work hard at everything I do, both academically and athletically. I believe that when you slack or don't give 100% every play you're hurting yourself and your teammates. I also live by the belief that you will never be handed a position, you have to earn it with the opportunity that you are given. What I can tell you is, playing college football has always been a dream of mine. A football scholarship is one of my goals. I feel it would be such an honor, not only to myself but to my parents if I was able to further my education with my athletic ability. I have two sisters ages 15 and 14, I am sure that putting all three of us through college would be difficult for them, if not impossible.
I had a terrific 2011 - 2012 football season. In the season opener, I had nine catches for 179 yards with one touchdown. For this, I received player of the week recognition. I received 1st Team All Del-Val, 2nd Team All Delco, All-Eastern Pa football honorable mention and Southeastern PA All-Academic team. I led Delaware County in receiving yards with 40 catches for 768 yards and eight touchdowns. My goals as a sophomore leading into my junior year of high school are to hit the weight room in the off-season, have an even more productive 2013 season and to help lead my team to another district title.
While we didn't contend for the District title in 2013, I was able to gain more knowledge of the game and show a lot of special teams potential. Under a first time Varsity starting QB, the coaches felt that a change from a spread offense to a primary run game could get us where we needed to be. Unfortunately, we fell short and my personal goals were not met. My stats were as follows: 27 catches for 372 yards, 10 KO returns for 223 yards, 9 Punt returns for 239, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. This earned me First team All-Delco and 2nd Team All Del-Val honors. My ideal college would offer me the opportunity to compete for a starting position as a freshman and establish an early leadership role. In the meantime, I will be working hard both on the field and in the classroom and I will strive to continue to receive academic honors.
