Personal Statement

My name is Chloe Reiser, and I’m currently enrolled at Decorah High School located in Decorah, Iowa. I plan to  My family includes myself, Erica (mom), Rich (Dad), Brayden (brother), and Danika (sister). We also have two dogs, Tessa (mini poodle mix) and Via (shih tzu). My family has been very supportive and a great help to me, especially in volleyball. They get me to and from practices and games, sometimes driving almost 2 hours each direction to practice.  They sit through multiple days of tournaments, just watching me play. I understand it's not everyone's first choice. I really appreciate the love and support they give me.

The extracurricular activities that I’m involved in include FFA, volleyball, community club, TAATU and track. I joined FFA to give me a good experience and teach me how to be more responsible. I also thought that it would be a good chance for me to explore my interests in agriculture. It’s always been a dream of mine to someday own a horse ranch and have animals, so FFA and Agriscience classes can help me learn more about agriculture. It also feels like it’s in my blood to be involved with agriculture because I live in Iowa and my dad’s side of the family are horse and farm people. I really enjoy being a part of FFA and having a good group of people to be involved with.

I joined community club and TAATU this year because I wanted to be more involved in my school and community. TAATU stands for Teens Against Alcohol and Tobacco Use and I joined that because I feel like more people in our community need information on how those substances aren't good for your health. I wanted to be part of the generation that strives to educate people on the dangers of alcohol and tobacco.

I became interested in volleyball with our third grade Park & Rec volleyball program.  But, like every other third grader, I had a lot of skills to learn and develop. I continued to play volleyball from there on out.  I really started to like it when I was in sixth grade, when we started to do more traveling. After that, let’s just say you couldn’t keep me off the court.

Playing volleyball has made me realize some things about myself. For example, I DO NOT like to lose. I will do anything to get a ball, I like to communicate, I like to lead, etc. I put my heart and soul into every practice, every set, and every match.

Just like everything else, it takes hard work to succeed in volleyball.  I work hard in the off-season to prepare for the next level of competition.  I need to continuously put in the time and effort to improve, otherwise, I won’t become a better athlete or a better person.

Just as important as volleyball is, I have school to think about too. Someday I would like to go to college, majoring in business and minoring in accounting. I want to do this to take over my family’s financial business.  If I find out that’s not for me, I could still have a lot of options in other business fields. But, for high school, I just want to end every year with a 3.9 or higher grade point average, but I strive for a 4.0 every semester. My main academic goal is to keep my grades up, even if I have to sacrifice the fun things. I just need to get it done and done well. Striving to do well in school will eventually lead me to success in the long run.

Just like everything else, it takes hard work to succeed in volleyball.  I work hard in the off-season to prepare for the next level of competition.  I need to continuously put in the time and effort to improve, otherwise, I won’t become a better athlete and a better person.

In conclusion, I’m very excited to see what my high school volleyball and academic careers have in store for me, and I couldn’t be more happy to start the club season this year. Thank you for reading.

Chloe Reiser
