Personal Statement
This is me, Zach Wren - Thanks for looking at my NCSA Profile Page!
I am a 6’1, 190lb, right-handed, Pro-Style Quarterback at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, AZ (6A-3000+ students) Class of 2022
I am really looking forward to my Senior Year!
**************************************
My Freshman year was not a typical year. My HS football career started out with me being selected as the only Freshman to be invited to the week-long Pinnacle training camp in California. My learning curve was high, but I took it in stride and I feel became a better leader because of it. I could not have come to high school at a better time, because not only at camp that year, but also throughout the season, I learned under the Rivals #1 ranked HS QB in the Country, Elite 11 Winner and 2019 Oklahoma University Commit, Spencer Rattler, and his back-up, which on ANY other HS team in the US would be the starter, Class of 2020, and then Michigan University Commit JD Johnson.
While I started in all 9 of our Freshman games in 2018, and finished with a 7-2 record, I was invited by Pinnacle Head Coach, Dana Zupke, to dress for all of our JV Games for the entire season, who went 9-0! When the Pinnacle Varsity team made their deep push into the AZHS 6A Football Playoffs, I was allowed to participate at the Varsity level and learn from a great team, of how to prepare and game-plan for a drive to a championship. These are lessons I kept with me and will continue to build on as I progress through my HS career and beyond.
During my Sophomore Season (2019), I started at QB for the Junior Varsity Team, and backed up 2020 Michigan Commit JD Johnson on the Varsity Team. I led the JV Team to a 7-0 season, before I got myself into academic trouble, by letting my grades slip, and had to sit out a couple games. This was the hardest lesson I have yet had to learn so far as a student athlete, however, I worked twice as hard, got my grades up, and fought my way back onto the team for the AZ HS Playoffs!
I still have a lot of room to grow, and I can assure you I haven't come close to my full potential. Besides all the time I put in with my HS coaches and team working to get better, I spend time each week with a strength, speed and agility coach, and then each weekend I spend additional time working with a highly reputable private quarterback coach, working to ensure that I reach my maximum potential.
Coaches, I have taken the lessons I have learned from being benched due to poor grades, and made it a positive by speaking to younger players and ensuring they understand that their work in the classroom is as important as their work on the field. Due to this outreach, I was selected as a Mentor for my school which gives me a larger platform to speak to, than just the football team. I have also done the work in the classroom and virtually, (due to COVID-19) including re-taking two classes during the Summer of 2020, I have now raised my grades to a respectable level and showing what I am really capable of!
Keep checking back as there are many great things ahead for me in the future!
