Personal Statement
My life has been greatly influenced by the people that I am around such as friends and family. They have made me into the detail oriented, perfectionist, considerate, and competitive person that I am today. The competitive influence was mostly from my dad, which led me into sports such as soccer and basketball even before I played softball. However, being a baseball player himself, my dad chose to introduce me to softball when I was eight, and I began to love it more than any of the sports I played before.
As I said earlier, I am a perfectionist, which is a trait that I get from my mom, and I try to incorporate into the classroom and into my athletics. But by playing softball, it has taught me that no one is going to get close to that perfect standard. You can try, but you aren’t going to bat 1.000 and field 1.000 every single game, and accepting these facts helps me to get over the tiny failures I will encounter. When I was younger, that aspect of getting over my failures was hard for me. The “mental game” within softball would tend to get the best of me. Now being older, I have developed that short-term memory that athletes need to have, and I am able to shake off mistakes and learn from them, so that they don’t carry over into the next play or at bat.
Academically, I am going to strive to maintain my 4.0 GPA in high school which will be harder to do now that I have the chance to take AP classes. As for college, I would like to be as close to perfect as I can be, knowing that those grades and performances will have the greatest impact on my future for a career.
