Personal Statement
Several years ago, I played for a small club in my hometown. There were 2 goalkeepers, and the coach chose to utilize me more in the field than in the goal. While I loved the action of non-stop play, I missed the intensity and responsibility I feel when I am making a save. That year was very frustrating, but it made me realize the passion I had not only for soccer, but for defending the goal. My love for the position has helped me grow both as a team leader when I help organize my fellow players on the field, and as a motivator for my teammates from my box. Joining the Development Academy team had a large impact on my life since there were more practices and games were much further away. With all the time on the road, I was able to learn how to balance school and soccer. It also gave me time to work on my mental game by watching videos and listening to podcasts of all aspects of soccer. In the Summer of 2018, my team made it to the Final Four in the Inaugural Season for Girls Development Academy. That was an amazing experience, and I am proud of the part I played to get us there.
Academics are another side of my very busy life. My grades are important to me, and I like the challenge of Honors and AP classes. I want to be a Forensic Anthropologist, and possibly help solve crimes for the FBI or other organization. That career requires a graduate degree, so that opens up my undergrad college choices. I want a college with strong academics, but it doesn’t necessarily have to have my exact career path. Since I do not play soccer for my school, I have become very involved in Choir. I have achieved many top rankings in our school and regional choirs. I also routinely sing the National Anthem for our Boy’s Soccer home games. It gives me the opportunity to be involved with soccer and my school in a different way.
2019/2020 included several significant changes for me. First of all, I made the move to a new club. While it was a difficult decision to make, I felt I would be getting better training and more opportunities to grow. I was able to sign with the DA part time, and DPL full time. This helped me be more challenged as a goalkeeper, as well as allowing me to come in and help my High School team when both their GKs were injured. I was able to play 4 games with them before UIL competition was suspended due to Covid-19. It was amazing being able to play with my childhood friends in front of my hometown!
My goal is to find a team that challenges me and helps me grow as a goalkeeper and as a person. I strive to be a well-rounded player, providing the glue that holds teams together and help them succeed on and off the pitch.
