Personal Statement
Dear Prospective Coach,
My name is Kayin Young and I am a Junior at Highland High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am one of the starting Wide Receivers (WR/Slot) on our varsity team, but also play Defensive Back (DB) and Special Teams. My dream and goals are to play football at the D1 level like my uncle and obtain a college degree like my parents. My ultimate goal is to make it to the National Football League (NFL), if that doesn’t work out, my interest is in Criminal Justice and one day become a police officer just like my mom.
I have been playing football since I was six years old, and I’ve learned a few things about myself over the years. I learned the most important things are teamwork, having a good attitude and work ethic, and the desire to compete. Since growing up as a military kid there are three words I heard a lot around my house, they were honor, courage, and commitment. My parents were sticklers about each and always made time to give my siblings and I “the lecture.” My mom, to this day speaks to us about living our lives with honor and “don’t you dishonor the family name with stupid behavior!” Both of my parents retired from the Navy and my older brother served six years in the Army as an Army Ranger. These are the three words that I try to live my life by.
I played other sports like basketball, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and wrestling when I was younger, but football stood out for me. I possess the characteristics and skills to play WR and DB. Over the next three years my goals are to improve my GPA, get bigger, stronger, and faster which will allow me more opportunities to go to college. In addition, receive All-Conference and/or State recognition upon completion of each season. “It is a dream until you write it down, then it becomes a goal.” - Emmitt Smith.
I look forward to earning the opportunity to play college football and receive an excellent college education.
