Personal Statement
My name is Samuel Salisbury and I am a defenseman for both Middle Creek High School and Team 91 Carolina. What makes me different than all of the other student athletes is my work ethic and coachability. While I may not be the fastest or strongest player on my team, my coaches consistently tell me that I’m the hardest working player on the team and one of the most enjoyable to coach. Whatever my coach asks of me, I do without hesitation. This summer, for example, I will be focusing on foot quickness and building upper body strength at the instruction of my Varsity head coach. I played for the top 10 national high school team (peek ranking #5 nationally) coached by the North Carolina high school coach of the year. In addition, I had the opportunity to practice daily against and defend the all time highest scoring attackmen in North Carolina high school history.
In addition to my work ethic, I’m always willing to accept a challenge and grow from it. Back in 2010, my family moved overseas to Siena, Italy and lived there for over two years. I attended the International School of Siena and was taught in both Italian and English. Me and my sisters were the only Americans in the entire school. I knew nothing about Italy or how to speak Italian. I would have to study and do presentations in front of the whole school in both Italian and English, as there were students from twelve different countries at the school. It was hard, but I worked extremely hard and never accepted defeat. That is what separates me from all the other student athletes.
